Parte da série Fictional Landscapes, a obra trata do processo de metamorfose cultural
vivida pelas paisagens naturais. Em seu trabalho constante com imagens de jardins e
parques, a artista interessa-se pela construção de noções históricas que relacionam esses
espaços às ideias de saber e de prazer. Para Gabriela, esse é o motor do que define como
“ficções do mundo natural”, estruturas de representação ligadas à paisagem que orientam
nossa forma de vê-la e de agir sobre ela. O jardim é encarado como um sistema, resultado
da manipulação da natureza pelo homem e, também, como objeto de catalogação e de
constituição de arquivo.

Part of the Fictional Landscapes series, this work deals with the process of cultural
metamorphosis that natural landscapes undergo. In her constant work with images of
gardens and parks, the artist is interested in the construction of historical notions that
relate these spaces with the ideas of knowledge and pleasure. For Albergaria, this is
what drives what she defines as “fictions of the natural world” structures of representation
linked to the landscape that guide our way of seeing it and acting on it. The garden is
seen as a system, resulting from man’s manipulation of nature as well as from the actions
of cataloging and the construction of a collection.
