Na videoinstalação, o contorno dos edifícios modernistas de Luanda confunde-se com a
imagem de caixas de madeira. Nelas, foram acomodados os pertences de portugueses e
da comunidade branca da cidade quando de sua fuga do país, às vésperas da guerra civil,
em 1975. Sobre essa estrutura simbólica, projeta-se um vídeo sobre um indivíduo vivendo
o impasse de abandonar sua terra natal. Assombrado por pesadelos e pela realidade dos
bairros já esvaziados, sente as construções animarem-se, adquirindo outra natureza com o
afastamento do homem. A cidade apresenta-se como um amor que o narrador reluta em
deixar para trás – mas cujo destino já estaria traçado.

In this video installation, the outline of the modernist buildings of Luanda resembles the
image of wooden boxes. They held the belongings of the city’s Portuguese and white
community when they needed to flee the country. On this symbolic structure, a video is
projected which concerns the hardship of abandoning one’s country of birth. Haunted
by nightmares and the reality of the now empty districts, the constructions seem to be
animated by another nature once the people have gone away. The city is presented as a
love that the narrator does not want to leave behind—but whose destiny is already written.
