A experiência de viajar e o simbolismo do mar são abordados por Maimuna Adam em A
espera. O vídeo é apresentado com uma delimitação circular, como se as paisagens fossem
vistas de um telescópio ou da escotilha de um farol – situação de testemunho distante, de
busca. Suas cenas remetem à incerteza do desconhecido e à aquisição de novas vivências:
memórias de passeios e histórias de imigração em Moçambique. A nostalgia causada pelas
mudanças vividas com o passar do tempo, a noção de destino como papel no mundo e a
identidade em constante construção são questões suscitadas pela obra da artista, que
convida a uma jornada introspectiva.

The experience of traveling and the symbolism of the sea are dealt with by Maimuna Adam
in A espera. The video is presented in a circular format, as though the landscapes were
being perceived through a telescope or in the beam of a searchlight—seen by a distant,
searching witness. Its scenes refer to the uncertainty of the unknown and the acquisition
of new experiences: memories of trips and stories of immigration in Mozambique. The
nostalgia provoked by the changes brought by time, the role of destiny, and the constant
construction of identity are questions evoked by the artist’s work, which invites the viewer
on an introspective journey.
