O coletivo O Grivo cria peças sonoras que convocam o espectador para além do ouvir: os mecanismos
que constroem passam pelo acompanhamento visual de processos. Na instalação, um motor e
várias engrenagens fazem circular uma linha com 57 nós. No meio desse circuito, uma câmera
de vídeo permite mapear digitalmente a passagem da linha a sua frente, projetando a imagem.
Quando um nó entra no quadro da câmera, um som staccato (curto) é disparado e, quando sai,
ouve-se um som contínuo. Essa partitura rítmica, criada a partir da cooperação entre mecanismos
analógicos e sua leitura digital, evoca reflexões sobre a reciprocidade entre imagem projetada e
real, a associação entre ritmo e imagem, e a interação entre o som e o mecanismo em movimento.

The artist collective O Grivo creates sound artworks that engage the spectator in more than just
listening: the mechanisms they construct are also worthy of visual observation. In the installation,
a motor and various gears make a string with fifty-seven knots move around a circuit. In the middle
of the circuit, a video camera digitally maps the passage of the string in front of it, projecting the
image. When a knot enters the camera’s framing, a staccato (brief) sound is set off and, when
it leaves, a continual sound is heard. This rhythmic musical score, created from the cooperation
between analog mechanisms and their digital reading, evokes reflections about the reciprocity
between a projected image and the real object, the association between rhythm and image, and
the interaction between sound and the mechanism in movement.
