Stewart Sukuma Moçambique

O músico moçambicano da região de Niassa produz uma música cheia de energia e de
múltiplas influências. O caldo cultural de seu país, marcado pelo encontro com as tradições
islâmica e portuguesa, é a principal fonte de seu trabalho, mas seu olhar se estende à riqueza
linguística e de sons de todo o continente africano. Membro da Berklee College of Music,
nos Estados Unidos, Sukuma vê, em sua música, uma forma de atuar, também, na luta
pelos direitos humanos. Primeiro embaixador da boa vontade da Unicef em Moçambique,
encabeça iniciativas em prol da valorização da cultura moçambicana, campanhas pela
prevenção da aids e pelos direitos da criança, entre outras causas.

Stewart Sukuma Mozambique

This Mozambican musician from the region of Niassa produces a music full of energy and
multiple influences. The cultural melting pot of his country, marked by the encounter of
Islamic and Portuguese traditions, is the primary source of his work, but his gaze extends
to the linguistic wealth and sounds of the entire African continent. A member of the Berklee
College of Music, in the United States, Sukuma sees music as a means of fighting for
human rights. The first goodwill ambassador of UNICEF in Mozambique, he has headed up
initiatives aimed at the valorization of Mozambican culture, campaigns for AIDS prevention
and children’s rights, among other causes.
